SNICKERDOODLE KNITS
Creativity, Clarity + Confidence in Knitting
The techniques used in this shawl include knitting stitches together, KFB, SK2P, and yarn overs. It's a great project for an adventurous knitter who is interested in learning simple lace knitting. Learn more about the techniques used in this shawl here.
The shawl uses a total of 740 yd / 320 g of DK weight yarn. The design sample used four colors with two 254 yd / 110 g skeins and two 115 yd / 50 g skeins. If you'd like, you may use three colors of 254 yd / 110 g each. Learn more about yarn recommendations here. Note: If you are purchasing a 3-skein Tippy Tree Yarn kit, that will be plenty of yarn for the shawl.
Jazz It Up Shawl was designed for Tippy Tree Yarns' January 2022 Mystery Knit Along inspired by Ella Fitzgerald. I chose to create a warm, squishy, and cozy shawl with a more unique shape and simple but addicting textures with visual interest.
True to the style of jazz, I improvised the design as I knit, allowing the yarn and needles to direct me on where to place each lace section, the color changes, and the shawl shaping. The result was a knit that I thoroughly loved: relatively mindless with some interest and thoroughly addicting.... and the test knitters and MKAL knitters confirmed the same experience!
You're feeling tired of wearing the same shawls to every outing and event. Even if they aren't the same shawl, they're the same idea: a basic triangle or asymmetrical triangle; simple garter with some textures. You're ready for a change of pace, something a little different. You're looking for the Jazz It Up Shawl.
This shawl's kite shape adds some visual interest and a unique look when styled while still providing the super cozy and easy to wear shawl that you love.
Make the shawl in each of your favorite color palettes to cover any mood you're ever in!
You love the simple, classy look of garter but you also love how it feels to dress up a bit, and you're looking for a knitting project that's engaging but relatively simple.
Look no further! Jazz It Up is a delightful mixture of simple garter with increases, decreases, and the occasional lace section. Once you get into a rhythm, the lace section is memorizable and so fun to knit.
