I'm not releasing any new knitting patterns this month, so I thought it'd be fun to pop in and share some “throwbacks” with you to designs that I've released in January's of the past. (Spoiler: this includes some of my favorite designs!)
Collection of 4 Beautiful and Cozy Shawl Knitting Patterns
Two years ago, I released the Guiding Principles Collection, a collection of four shawl knitting patterns, to serve as a reminder of the “principles” we want to bring with us through the year in order to achieve our goals and intentions. The four qualities that I chose are Endurance, Hope, Trust, and Patience.
Endurance Shawl: cozy, simple DK weight shawl knitting pattern
Endurance is simple and steady.
Ah, a new year. The excitement, the plans, the goals, the ambitions. Anything is possible, the sky is the limit.
But have you thought about what it’ll take on a day to day basis do each those things?
Don’t get me wrong; a love the feeling of new opportunities. But how long does it take that newness to wear off?
It was with these thoughts in mind that I created the Guiding Principles Collection. Achieving our goals and plans takes a lot more than setting an intention on the first day of the year. It takes patience, hope, endurance, and trust {and gratitude, the honorary member of the collection 😄}.
The shawl shown here is the Endurance Shawl. It’s a simple asymmetrical triangle filled with garter. Sometimes that can feel easy, sometimes boring, sometimes difficult, sometimes tiring. But you just have to stick with it, knitting one stitch after another.
And that’s the way it is with life, there are ups and downs and ins and outs, but if we have endurance, continually putting one foot in front of the other, you WILL achieve those goals.
Have you established any daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly habits that will help you throughout the year?
I designed the Endurance Shawl using Leading Men Fiber Arts' squishy DK weight Dramaturg yarn base in three fun and beautiful colors: Raspberry Parfait, Rendezvous, and Orchard. It's a simple asymmetrical triangle shawl perfect for beginner knitters.
You may find the Endurance Shawl on Ravelry, LoveCrafts, or the Snickerdoodle Knits website.
Hope Shawl: lightweight, bouncy, and simple lace shawl knitting pattern
Hope is light, airy, freeing, and bright.
✨ Hope. Where would we be without it? ✨
It's what gives us excitement, and something to look forward to, in the future.
It motivates us.
It inspires us.
It changes us, for the better.
And yet, when things get tough? It can be easy to lose hope.
We make plans, goals, ideas; and then something gets in the way. Do you lose hope or do you cling to it?
Even though I released the Guiding Principle Collection two years ago, every time I think about the Hope Shawl, I feel lighter, happier. Like there's a little more freedom, a little more excitement, a little more anticipation and joy for both the present and the future.
I designed the Hope Shawl using Six and Seven Fiber's Barley yarn base in Morning Glory, with a simple lace motif, because it felt like the perfect picture of hope. Light, bright, bouncy, open, freeing, simple, beautiful.
And so, I hope that, as you go through this year (and ever year), that you don't lose your hope. Keep it close; it's important 💕
P.S. This pattern is actual quite simple and quite easy to modify, with just two 2-row repeats to create the whole shawl!
You can find the Hope Shawl on Ravelry, LoveCrafts, and the Snickerdoodle Knits website.
Trust Shawl: warm, cozy, and comforting shawl knitting pattern
Trust is a warm, cozy, simply designed hug.
💕 I feel it deeply inside, and like a hug around me, but I have a hard time putting this one into words. 💕
Sometimes we don't know what an experience is going to bring us through. We never know what the year will hold.
But somehow we can have some trust that it'll all be ok.
However, it's hard to describe that trust, because it isn't always logical, or even justified. Especially in the hard experiences.
But whatever it is for you, you can trust in it.
Trust we will come out kinder, gentler, and more caring.
And trust in the simple things of life: the sun rising every morning, the sunshine after the rain, the flower blooming after the cold winter.
As you knit the Trust Shawl, you can trust there won't be complicated stitches: it's (nearly) just knits and purls.
As you wear it, you can trust in its warmth enveloping you, comforting you, hugging you.
So as I struggle to put to words just what this trust is that I'm inspired by, I wonder what trust means to you. What do you trust in through the ups and downs of the year?
A significant other? Family? Friends? Your knitting? Nature?
I designed the Trust Shawl with Native Fibers' Arctic DK yarn base on Cabernet, a deep and grounding color, with simple stitches and a plain motif.
You can find the Trust Shawl on Ravelry, LoveCrafts, or the Snickerdoodle Knits website.
Patience Shawl: fingering weight lace shawl knitting pattern
Patience is intricate and beautiful.
You know that feeling when you get into the middle of a project, and it's taking wayyyyy longer than you'd expected? Ya, me too. It happens all the time 😅
That's what the Patience Shawl is about: the times when things don't go according to plan. Whether it's time, logistics, life circumstances getting in the way… the truth is, not everything will go exactly according to our plans, goals, and intentions {no matter how amazing, carefully thought-out, and intentional we are}.
So it's important to have patience when things go wrong.
Have the patience to work through it, or around it, or whatever you have to do to get where you're headed.
The Patience Shawl isn't the easiest knit. It's covered in lace and requires a lot of attention. But if you work through the pattern persistently, you'll get to the end. And if I might say so myself, the result is absolutely beautiful. 🥰
That's the way patience is, too. It can be hard, but it's worth it, and the end product is that much sweeter and more beautiful when you're done.
So, I hope you'll have a bit of patience this year. With yourself, with others, and with life. Things won't be perfect, but if you see them from the right perspective, they can be beautiful. 🥰
I designed the Patience Shawl using Tippy Tree Yarns' Sparkle Sock yarn base in Branches, with two beautiful lace motifs, a touch of garter stitch, and a few accent tassels.
The pattern is available for purchase on Ravelry, LoveCrafts, or the Snickerdoodle Knits website.

Lovely in Lace: engaging, fun, and simple lace wrap knitting pattern
Last year, I released the Lovely in Lace Wrap, which I designed for Tippy Tree Yarn's Mystery Knit Along inspired by Audrey Hepburn. It's a lightweight rectangular wrap using simple lace motifs that have short repeats (making it easier to memorize). I absolutely loved the knit; and I especially love the feather and fan!
✨ “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” ~ Audrey Hepburn ✨
I like to add a touch of special meaning in each of the designs that I create, connecting links and creating symbolism in each and every part. It’s like creating a complete story, through the stitches, the yarn, and the overall fabric.
One of those little special touches for the Audrey Hepburn Advent MKAL design (also the Lovely in Lace Wrap) was to include a quote from Audrey Hepburn with each week’s clue. I chose four quotes that I felt aligned well with the stitches and the yarn, and of course were meaningful quotes that I thought you’d love. ✨
Those quotes still remain in the Lovely in Lace Wrap pattern, at the top of each page. 💕
The Lovely in Lace Wrap is available on Ravelry, LoveCrafts, and my website.
Which is your favorite January release, and why? Also - if you're knitting one of these projects (or other of my patterns), please share a photo! I love to see your work!
